Job Description
When you become a Volunteer Coordinator, you become a superhero, joining the likes of Wonder Woman or Batman.  Your Volunteer Coordinator senses will tingle when you see people in need and you know what to do to solve the problem.  When the Executive Director comes up with a brilliant idea to serve the community, but it requires oodles of passionate people, she will shine the Volunteer Coordinator signal into the night’s sky, searching for you, the hero that can assemble the volunteer forces.  When you become a Volunteer Coordinator, your life as a mere civilian is over.  Are you ready for this?
 
Responsibilities
  • Promote volunteering (internally and externally) through recruitment and publicity strategies and campaigns
  • Work with social, civic and local organizations to develop partnerships, where appropriate, to develop and/or utilize volunteers
  • Implement a screening process for potential volunteers according to accepted screening standards and practices
  • Interview potential volunteers to determine if they are a good fit for the organization
  • Develop and implement training programs for all volunteers
  • Create and distribute information regarding volunteer policies and procedures
  • Manage communication among volunteers and between an organization and its volunteers, in order to share news, progress, and available positions
  • Communicate frequently with volunteers to ensure they are satisfied and well-placed
  • Cultivate a positive and supportive atmosphere by recognizing volunteer efforts and assisting volunteers with their own endeavors
  • Develop program goals and policies
  • Maintain a database of volunteers and projects and tracks metrics
  • Monitor and evaluate activities and write reports for leadership and funders
  • Manage budgets and resources
  • Generate income and raise funds to make projects sustainable
